Somatically Healing Sexual Trauma with Khumo Masege
February 16th, 1:00-3:00 pm EST, conducted online via Zoom
Course Description:
In this course, participants will learn how to approach the treatment of Sexual Trauma from a somatic lens.
Sexual Abuse often involves long lasting physical and emotional effects that are sometimes not entirely met by talk therapy and mind-focused approaches alone. When a trauma occurs, the body goes into automatic defense spaces that can cut off rational and reflective responses in the brain, and cause experiences to get stuck in the body (Hopper, 2023, Levine, 1997).
Somatic therapy is known for its use in treating complex trauma experiences through releasing stress that has been stored in the body, while also attending to and connecting the mind. This workshop will help clinicians build a toolkit of somatic resources geared at supporting clients from a more comprehensive lens.
Learning Objectives:
1. Recognize what happens in the body during & after Sexual Trauma
2. Identify and understand factors that affect somatic healing from Sexual Trauma
3. Describe at least 3 Somatic Techniques for treatment of Sexual Trauma
This training is eligible for 2 Continuing Education Credits for LMHCs, LCSWs, and LMSWs.
